If you are confused... read my previous post before this one!
I finally got ahold of the surgeon... he came to see Macy. As soon as he walked in the flood gates opened! I explained my concerns, asked him how much she needed to gain etc... I showed him her HUGE tummy and he saw how fussy she was.
He decided to keep her here until surgery, slow down her feeds to 50 ml. and put her back on TPN (IV nutrition). He said as long as she is gaining a little each day, that is okay for now. (few... I am feeling a bit better already!)
Then 1:30 comes rolling around and Macy starts puking bowel contents (again). This is hard for me to watch!!! I called the nurse in and told her that I wasn't going to allow them to feed her at 2:00. She obviously couldn't handle what was in there already! They agreed and also called the doctor to come see her.
Well, she threw up again just before the doctor came. As soon as the doctor saw that it was bowel contents (poop), she said... okay this isn't good! (I immediately started crying... again... and said, "that is what I have been trying to say, since yesterday!!") So, they have made her NPO (so no more feeds for now) they are sending her for an Abdominal X-ray and starting her TPN again.
This is sweet relief!!! Macy girl, your momma is watching out for you!!! We just want you to get through this and come home healthy!!!

Macy is so lucky to have you as her momma. What a blessing to have the training and knowledge you have to help her along and be her support. Good for you to speak up to the Dr.'s and nurses. Most of us would just let them do what they do without speaking up.
It can be so hard to have so many people (Dr, nurses, etc) involved in the care of your baby. Just remember that Heavenly Father entrusted you with Macy. Follow your instincts and stick to them. You know Macy best, so maybe stuffed turkey wasn't the way to go. Lol.
Macy is blessed to have you for a Momma and advocating and watching out for her. I have been holding Macy close in my positive thoughts and prayers since I first 'met' her.
Lifting you up in loving thoughts and prayers.
sending lots of prayers your way and thinking about you.
A mother's intuition can be soooo much better than a doctor's diagnosis - we KNOW when something isn't right. Hope you get answers. Praying for you :)
Just found your blog from Sarah's-- had to drop a note! My little one was in the NICU 7 weeks after major bowel surgery (she was a preemie, though-don't want to scare you :)), had trouble gaining weight, didn't breastfeed until she was 3 1/2 months old... I can totally relate to the frustrations with feeding, doctors, hospitals... I feel for you! Here's hoping that things go smoother and that you get your little darling home! FAST! Good luck!
Oh... sweet Macy is so blessed to have you in her life! We're rooting for her!
Kathy, little Macy is the cutest little darling! I feel so bad that she is struggling so much with her feedings. Good job for putting your foot down! Most of the time Mom's know what's best for their kids...and the fact that your a nurse helps too:) Hang in there.
SO frustrating!! So glad you are looking out for her, you were definately meant to be her momma! You are awesome!
It's so nice once you get all the medical stuff behind you and can finally just worry about Down syndrome. :) It was so nice when I was able to finally focus on Morgan's needs and not just her heart failure. You and cute Macy are in my prayers.
Good for you for standing up for your poor little baby! She's such a cutie!
