Understanding

I found these lists recently that have helped me understand my husband more and they have helped him understand me more! Can you guess who the extrovert is and who the introvert is?

How to care for Extroverts

-Respect their need to share, to ‘talk it out.’ They get their energy from other people.

-Just as with introverts, never embarrass them in public. If you do embarrass them in public, go along as much as is reasonable if they play it off like a joke.
-Don’t be surprised if they dive into a new situation headfirst. Don’t freak out either if they flounder a little. They’ll find their way.
-Extroverts blurt. It’s the nature of the beast. Most try to leaven it with charm, but try to be patient when they don’t.
-Expect interruptions that may seem rude, to some. Most of the time, they mean well.
-Build surprise into your lives together. Most extroverts love the thrill of not knowing what’s up - as long as it’s positive.
-Be prepared for what looks like ADD. The organically outgoing among us feed off the environment around them. They are often the best multi-taskers around, so understand that they are often paying much more attention to you than you think they are.
-A flash over temper goes with the extroverted personality. The bad thing is it can look like a much more severe storm than it is. The good thing is it’s over quickly.
-Many extroverts live for the intuitive leap. They reach for it. If teaching an extrovert something new, have patience with them jumping ahead of you.
-They will always have lots of friends. But most extroverts have a core of best friends, and their loyalty can be fierce and aggressive if they feel the need to defend those friends. As with so many aspects of the extroverted personality, you may have to be patient with this.
-They love compliments, but can usually see right through insincere flattery. Well-timed encouragement, though, can help an extrovert soar.
-Sometimes, it’s okay to just go along with the “show.” Consider it free entertainment.
-Respect their extroversion. Don’t try to pin them to your board or cage them. And do them a favor, if you are not yourself outgoing, extroverted - gently but persistently remind them to read something like this as often as possible. They probably will need the reminders.

How to care for Introverts

-Respect their need for privacy.
-Never embarrass them in public.
-Let them observe first in new situations.
-Give them time to think. Don't demand instant answers.
-Don't interrupt them.
-Give them advanced notice of expected changes in their lives.
-Give them 15 minutes warning to finish what they are doing before calling them to dinner or moving to the next activity.
-Reprimand them privately.
-Teach them new skills privately rather than in public
-Enable them to find one best friend who has similar interests and abilities; encourage this friendship even if the friend moves.
-Do not push them to make lots of friends.
-Respect their introversion. Don't try to make them into extroverts.

When you can't find a clothespin!!!

You do what you have to do...

Zoe has done really well lately at not pooping in her kennel at night, but she had an accident a few nights ago.
So, I asked my sweet hubby if he wanted to gag or if he wanted me to gag...
He chose to do it for me this time! I was laughing so hard at him. Man, don't guys know not to make a prego girl laugh that hard! Ewww, it is so nasty! and when it comes to poop, working in the hospital, I have seen it all!

But nothing is quite like doggy dootie!!!

Don't feel too bad for him, I had to do it again this morning :)

On another note,

A few days ago I let Tommy and his friends make Rock Pumpkins.

Then we made Candy Popcorn, it is quite yummy! Here is the recipe.

Jello Popcorn

15 cups popped popcorn
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
3 (3 ounce) package fruit flavored gelatin mix
2 tablespoon corn syrup
6 tablespoons water

Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Grease a 1/4 sheet pan or two 8x12 inch baking dishes.
Place popcorn in a large bowl.
In prepared saucepan over medium heat, combine butter, sugar, gelatin, corn syrup and water. Heat while stirring till it boils, then stir and boil 4 min.
Pour mixture evenly over popcorn and stir until coated. Put popcorn in oven and bake 20 min, stirring ones after 10 min.
Turn popcorn out onto a large piece of foil/wax paper. Let rest until cool enough to handle, then form into balls. Or let cool completely and break into clusters. Store in an airtight container, in a cool, dry place.
Big helper!

The tale of the...

Low Carb Cheesecake!

My husband LOVES cheesecake! When we were dating and he was watching his sugar intake, he used to drive to the cheesecake factory, run in, get a slice of low carb cheesecake... then proceed to eat it in front of me! And he is not one to share! He did this often!

As weird as it sounds, this is one of the things that drew me to him initially. The fact that he didn't bend over backwards for me or put me on a pedestal. I was done dating those desperate 30 something LDS guys that will do whatever just to get you to marry them! Barry was okay with his life, enjoyed dating me but wasn't feeling the need to impress me per se or jump into his THIRD proposal! Yet... I guess I turned out amazing cause after three months of that, he pulled out a ring!

Back to the point :) He is on another health kick, so I googled a "Cheesecake Factory Low Carb Cheesecake Recipe." I made it today, it puffed up like a souffle and I probably should have used a spring form pan

(there was a bit of overflow, which lead me to turn the self cleaning over on after, which lead to lots of smoke, which lead to the fire alarm going off again and again, which lead to all the windows and door being opened and me under the fire alarm swinging a towel from side to side!)

but... the pieces I ate off the edge before putting it in the fridge were absolutely DELICIOUS!!! I don't know if it tastes the same, cause remember... he never shared with me!
But, here is the recipe :)

photo is not a representation of the flavor :)

Cheesecake Factory Low Carb Cheesecake tastalike

Crust...
1/4 cup Finely Chopped pecans
1/4 cup Finely Chopped almonds
1/4 cup Finely Chopped walnuts
3/4 cup almond meal (almond flour)
2 Tablespoons butter (melt in microwave)

Filling...
1 1/2 pounds cream cheese
1 1/3 cups Pourable Splenda (or other sugar substitute that is equal to 1 1/3 cups sugar)
5 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 teaspoons lemon juice
16 ounces sour cream

Cream cheese and eggs should be at room temperature before you start.
How To Prepare:
Mix all nuts and almond meal with melted butter and press into a spring form pan, trying to line the sides as much as possible about 1 1/2 inches up the sides of the pan, set aside to mix filling.

Start by beating the cream cheese until light and fluffy. Keep the mixer on a low setting throughout the beating and mixing process. Add the sugar substitute a little at a time and continue beating until creamy. Add one egg at a time and beat after each egg. When eggs have been mixed into the cream cheese, add vanilla and lemon juice, Add the sour cream last until just blended in.

Pour cream cheese mixture into the spring form pan. Place on the top rack in the middle of a 325 degree preheated oven for one hour and 15 minutes. If you want a cheesecake with a less brown top, put on the next rack down. Also, some have commented that they had a few cracks... Remember not to open the oven while baking, this might make it crack. You might also want to try a water bath but its not really necessary. When time is up, turn off the oven and prop open the oven door... leave in oven for one hour. After one hour, remove from oven. Run a knife around the edge of the cheesecake also, so if it shrinks while cooling it will not crack at that time either. Let cool to just about room temperature before the cheesecake is put into the refrigerator for 24 hours.

Make sure you wait the 24 hours before sampling... A cheesecake should season. The wait is worth it. The flavor ripens and becomes enriched.

Many commenter's said it was good the first day, better the second and amazing the third! Let's see if it lasts that long!

To my mom...

To My Mom

First off, I want to tell my mom how much I love her! She is silly and corky and fun. Maybe also a little crazy at times! But, that just comes with being in our family! She is just right for me!!! We have lots of fun together. I have so many fond memories of my mom dropping whatever she was doing just to hang out with me. I miss those LONG moonlight walks, hours of playing 5 crowns and skipping through disneyland singing zippity doo dah at the top of our lungs! I love it that you don't care what anyone thinks about you. It's a good thing because you are perfect just the way you are! I love you forever and ever. Can't wait to see you in June :)

I stole this questionaire from jamie. Thanks :)

I really love it when my mom spends quality time with me, we don't get much of that anymore!
My mom likes to wear anything comfortable, when I was a kid... her nylons were to first thing off after church!
My mom always tells me, she loves me and misses me!
The best thing she does is at any time she will stop what she is doing to do what I want to do!
It makes her happy when her kids are happy, healthy and getting along.
My mom loves to relax by relaxing with family or more recently... going on cruises.
I like it when she acts goofy! Like dancing or trying to do cartwheels in the middle of the street before the start of a parade :)
The best thing she cooks is lasagna, that is something I liked of hers as a kid.
When my mom shops she likes to buy anything onsale! She is a super bargain shopper.
My mom’s favorite household chore is… laundry never seemed to bother her.
My mom’s favorite TV show is probably "so you think you can dance."
If she could go on a trip, she would go to anywhere warm, maybe the caribbean. On a cruise!
I love my mom because she knows me and loves me no matter what! and I really do love her silly side too!

This time I asked tommy the questions about me...

My Mom - Tommy answered these, and some of the answers leave me wondering!

I really love it when my mom plays with me.

My mom likes to wear red dresses. (BTW, I don't own a red dress.)

My mom always tells me a secret and that she loves me.

The best thing she does is helps me feel better.

It make her happy when I help her

My mom loves to relax by cuddling with us and us making her warm.

I like it when she takes care of me.

The best thing she cooks is pizza and macaroni.

When my mom shops she likes to buy dinner.

My mom’s favorite household chore is vacuuming.

My mom’s favorite TV show is Survivor.

If she could go on a trip, she would go to Mexico.

I love my mom because she takes care of me when I'm scared.

I thought this was funny!

google.

I seriously thought this was really funny. Go to Google and do the following:

1. Follow the directions for each question
2. Answer with the first story that comes up.

Q: Type in "[your name] needs" in the Google search.
A: "Kathy needs to give herself some credit" <-- I think I give myself plenty!

Q: Type in "[your name] looks like" in Google search.
A: "Kathy looks like an incredibly gorgeous tripped out acid-house freak" <-- Wow, That is not how I look, is it?

Q: Type in "[your name] says" in Google search.
A: " Kathy says. “It gave me a lot of confidence." - The question is...what is IT?

Q: Type in "[your name] wants" in Google search.
A: "Kathy wants cake" - Funny, that one is true!

Q:Type in "[your name] does" in Google search.
A: "kathy does the GH spoilers." - Yeah, since I watch so many soaps!

Q: Type in "[your name] hates" in Google search.
A: "Kathy hates me more than Chloe the Evil Dog." <-- hmm... I wonder who chloe is?

Q: Type in "[your name] likes " in Google search.
A: "Kathy likes pink." - Okay, so I admit I like a little chick rock every once in a while!

Q: Type in "[your name] eats " in Google search.
A: "Kathy eats it!" <-- hehe so funny. I remember one time when I was trying to use gym equipment in a funny way and I ate it hard! Smacked my face on the floor! :)

Q: Type in "[your name] was arrested for" in Google Search.
A: " Kathy was arrested for Anti-war Activism."

Q: Type in "[your name] loves" in google search.
A: "Kathy love corn utopia." Umm, okay!

Funny to see what you find!!!!

Oh, the injustice!!!

What more could any 1 year old girl want for her birthday than...

4 metal cannula's jammed into her sweet tiny arms!!!

She is usually such a mild manored child... but she was not going down without a fight this time!! I have never seen her cry so hard... EVER! The nurse was actually quite good. I got a flu shot and for the first time ever...Didn't feel a thing. And I hate needles! I almost started crying when kyla was screaming except that she would look up at me and I could tell that she knew it wasn't me hurting her! SO SAD!!!

Here are her 1 yr old stats.

26 1/2 inches.
15 Lbs 13 oz.

Still off the charts for both... but, 25% for weight/height ratio...So, She is fine! The nurse agrees with me that she looks healthy :)
Last night for her birthday we sang Happy Birthday to her (which she Loved) and gave her a cupcake from Crave (which she didn't love). She enjoyed playing with it, but whenever she would get some in her mouth she would make this funny "sour" face and shake her head! I think it was too sweet for her :)

Essence of SLUSH...

No, this is not the new flavor of slurpy at 7-11 or the new type of body treatment at the spa...

This is what is now covering my car, house, outside and "inside" on my new shoes and about 6 inches up my pant legs!!! Please don't be jealous... I am more than willing to share my portion!

I pitty you people that weren't able to witness my dainty attempt at tiptoing into the safeway this afternoon...While carrying Kyla, In her car seat (might I add...just to find out that I forgot a quarter for a cart :) Maybe if I had worn my old point shoes I may not have ended up with one wet foot and one dry foot! Now isn't that comfortable.

But hey kira... who can be sad, mad or frustrated when there is a beautiful blue sky???? No me :)

BTW, this is not me getting soaked... and for that, I am thankful!!!

Mom's Christmas List

Dear Santa

I've been a good mom all year. I've fed, cleaned and cuddled my children on demand, visited the doctor's office more than my doctor, and sold sixty-two cases of candy bars to raise money to plant a shade tree on the school playground. I was hoping you could spread my list out over several Christmases, since I had to write this letter with my son's red crayon, on the back of a receipt in the laundry room between cycles, and who knows when I'll find any more free time in the next 18 years.

Here are my Christmas wishes: I'd like a pair of legs that don't ache (in any color, except purple, which I already have), and arms that don't hurt or flap in the breeze, but are strong enough to pull my screaming child out of the candy aisle in the grocery store. I'd also like a waist, since I lost mine somewhere in the seventh month of my last pregnancy.

If you're hauling big ticket items this year, I'd like fingerprint-resistant windows, and a radio that only plays adult music; a television that doesn't broadcast any programs containing talking animals, and a refrigerator with a secret compartment behind the crisper where I can hide to talk on the phone.

On the practical side, I could use a talking doll that says, 'Yes, Mommy!' to boost my parental confidence, along with two kids who don't fight, and three pairs of jeans that will zip all the way up without the use of power tools. I could also use a recording of Tibetan monks chanting, 'Don't eat in the living room,' and 'Take your hands off your brother,' because my voice seems to be just out of my children's hearing range and can only be heard by the neighbors dog. If it's too late to find any of these products, I'd settle for enough time to brush my teeth and comb my hair in the same morning, or the luxury of eating food warmer than room temperature without it being served in a styrofoam container. If you don't mind, I could also use a few Christmas miracles to brighten the holiday season. Would it be too much trouble to declare ketchup a vegetable? It will clear my conscience immensely. It would be helpful if you could coerce my children to help around the house without demanding payment as if they were the bosses of an organized crime family.

Well, Santa, the buzzer on the dryer is calling and my son saw my feet under the laundry room door. I think he wants his crayon back. Have a safe trip and remember to leave your wet boots by the door and come in and dry off so you don't catch cold. Help yourself to cookies on the table, but don't eat too many or leave crumbs on the carpet.Yours Always, MOM...

P.S. One more thing...you can cancel all my requests, if you can keep my children young enough to believe in Santa.

Kids say the darndest things!!

The other day I was telling tommy about something I had heard happened here is Calgary(which is rear). A man was trying to break into cars to steal Christmas Gifts. Well, Police showed up and chased him down. I guess in the process of running, the guy injured a few people! So when I told tommy about this story, he said, "I wish I was there, I would kick him in the nuts!!!" Wow, I was flabbergasted! Does my kid even know what nuts are??? So I asked him... Yep, he does! Thats scary, where did he hear that word? Well, what can you do??? I got a good laugh out of it! Then I explained that it's probably not nice to say that word and then tried with all my might to convince him that he would probably not been able to get the chance to kick the guys nuts before the guy hurt him! But lets just say my son thinks he is invincible and can outrun, outfight, outsmart and outtrick ANYONE!!! I hope we never have to see if he really could! YIKES...

Stepping into a MOVIE!!

Many of you have probably heard... but I just can't get over it! We found out the other night that my mother-in-law ans sister-in-law had a horrifying experience the other day.

They were in Palm Desert California (my mother-in-law lives there in the winter). They decided to go shopping at toys-r-us. Well, while they were there, two men opened gunfire and ended up killing each other. My family were witnesses. I feel so greatful that they weren't hurt! When Barry first told me about it, I started to tear up a bit. I wouldn't know what to did if either of them would have been shot! It would just kill me. I am so thankful that my sister-in-law left here two little kids at home with Grandpa. That would have made it all the more scary! Here is a video of their eyewitness account.

...An all around update and MISSING Barry...

This has been a CRAZY week to say the least! There have been highs and lows ( which I will get to) but for the most part this post is to say, "I am ready for my husband to be home!!!" We'll do the los first, then the highs...so we end on a happy note :)

Lows-

- Tommy coloring on the Granite Countertops with Crayon...
- Tommy coloring a rock with a blue marker, which kyla later got ahold of and became COVERED in Blue...
- The turkish delight that got rubbed into my couch early this morning!
- Missing my husband in the evening...
- Sunday feeding the missionaries without barry here :( (they were sister missionaries)
- Barry getting sick and me not being there to take care of him!
- Family Home Evening without Barry... :(
- The weather turned Cold!

Highs-

- The crayon came off the countertop easily... but seriously is he two years old?
- After sucking on the rock... Kyla looked kinda like a smurf... and I like Smurfs!
- The turkish delight is mostly gone, due to Oxy and vigorous scrubbing on my part! I can't really blame this one on the kids...I left it upstairs...oops.
- Those evening while I miss barry, I have stayed up and gotten a lot of scrapbooking done!
- While the sister missionaries were here we played a game together which included singing primary songs, telling our favorite scripture and pictionary( look in this months friend)... It was fun!
- Barry being sick and me not being there to take care of him! :) I don't like seeing him sick!
- Family home evening was still fun (though we missed dad!) We went to southland leisure center with the Palmers. Tommy had so much fun going down the slides on Justins back!
- Despite the weather, Kira and I went to a Christmas Farmers Market and had lots of hot chocolate and sampled Yummy dips... Is there anything better than sour cream and Mayo mixed??? I don't think so!

Saw my friend Barb at the market... She just got remarried and looks SO HAPPY!!! I just love her!

Doing things with my kids is the highlight of my life!

Good Friends are ALWAYS a blessing!

Kira's baby evan looking Oh So Adorable!

Also Updates on KYLA

I have gotten her on a sleeping program and she has slept through the night four nights in a row now! She is napping better and eating better. She is so much happier! Oh, and this week she discovered the stair and what they're for...Talk about SCARY!!!

HAPPY REMEMBERENCE DAY EVERYONE!!!

Two brains = NOT always enough!!!

I pulled up to my friends house the other day to pick her up and found her sitting in her driveway with a look of utter frustration! She was surrounded by car seat parts and looked close to tears :) She informed me that her husband took her son's car seat to work and that she was trying to assemble another one that can be used as forward or backward facing. She was so confused with how to assemble it. To make a long story short...I jumped in to help build it. Meanwhile, tommy grabbed my camera and started snapping pictures. Here is where the story begins...
The dreaded car seat... I actually had a great plan for getting the straps in...

Plan failed... Go to plan B ( read the Manuel)

Plan failed...Manuel sucks! Go back to plan A

and time goes by...

What is going on with this dang strap??? How could any kid be safe in this?

Kathy reads the manuel AGAIN...

Kira reads the manuel AGAIN...

More time goes by...

We promise we are not SUPER FRUSTRATED!! *Cheese*

Kyla's getting quite bored...
Finally think we got... Wait, nope not quite. Gotta get it in the car...This took us a while too!

Oh, yeah... FINALLY... Thanks to my super efficient careseat building skills!!!
It only took like 45 min :)

New car seat $100.00
Wasted time $1,000,000
Gloves for my now FROZEN hands $10.00

The look on kira's face when I drove up... PRICELESS!!!!
