Slow Photo Upload Issues... ARGH...

You probably wonder where my blogging has gone... well, I think my computer has developed a fear of uploading photos! Because it is so slow, and then it pops up as error! Who knows. Anyway... We've been busy.... Here are some highlights w/o photos!

-We went to the zoo (when Tommy was out of town) and I will say it was the only time I will ever be glad he was not there. The giraffes were mating, or the male was trying to. I have never seen that exhibit so full of people! Glad I didn't have to explain that one to Tommy!

-Cousins from Vegas moved up here! We have had them over a lot. We love having them here to stay!!!

-Had Tommy`s birthday party... FINALLY! It was fun. We had a pizza party and the kids played games like; dodge ball.

-One of our golf courses, Silverwing Links, is opening on Thursday for the season. Boulder creek opens next week. We have been busy getting it ready. We are doing free golf for a whole month with donations to United Way! BUSY BUSY BUSY!!!

-I started on a new Unit. Internal Medicine. Unit 93 at the Rockyview.

Aggie Days...

On saturday I took the kids to Aggie Days. We got free tickets last week when we were at our booth at the Golf Show. Aggie Days is so fun, here are some of the things we did.
There were tons of farm equipment to play on. Tommy was in Heaven! He had to sit in ever single one. I think there were 50 or more!

This race car was really cool! It is run completely on Canola Oil!! It can go up to 200 MPH. I asked how much it would cost per Litre, if we were to use it on all cars. He said about 2.00 per Litre! I think I will stick with the old fashion stuff :)


They got to look at lots of different animals. Baby chicks, ducks, geese, and the one in the picture is a baby turkey. They also saw, cows, calves, pigs, sheep, dogs and horses. We also saw this bee conoly and the man pointed out the queen to us. Kyla LOVES the animals. She makes little sounds at them.

This is Bessy. Tommy thought it was pretty fun to milk her, but I think it would have been better if it were a REAL cow!!! There was liquid in the fake udders that squirted out when you squeezed it. I remember getting to milk a real cow when I was little. You NEVER forget handling those UDDERS!
There was a station where they let the kids help MAKE a rope! Tommy actually helps spin it into a rope! SO COOL!
This chair was made out of 100% recycled cardboard. It was really durable. It held my weight just fine! Kind-of a fun concept for a playroom! They let tommy write his name on it :)

I didn't get a picture, but at the milk station they gave us a container and put heavy cream in it. They told us to shake it for about 10 min, then bring it back for a prize. How fun is that? Making our own butter! The prize was kinda lame... but they wouldn't let us keep the butter :( Tommy thought is was pretty cool though, and educational!

We saw the stock dog competition and watched a guy completely sheer a sheep! We learned about water irrigation. Tommy got to manuelly grind some Barley, go in a teepee and into an old fashioned carraige.

The canola oil station let us make our own play-dough from scratch. They also let us crush canola oil seeds to see how much oil we could get out of them. I think they are like 50% oil! We love to see all the canola fields in here in Alberta in the summer!

Easy Play Dough
Here's a quick and easy play dough recipe that will give your child hours of enjoyment!
Ingredients
1 cup flour 250 mL
1 cup salt 250 mL
1 Tbsp canola oil 15 mL
food colouring
water
Instructions
Mix flour and salt. Add canola oil. Add food colouring to a couple tablespoons of water. Then slowly add water until the mixture is pliable (spongy and clay-like).

As we were leaving there was a booth with a saddle that Tommy really wanted to sit on. The cowboy running the booth was so funny! He actually has a ranch in southern Alberta and offers from 1 1/2 hour horseback riding trips - 4 or 5 day trips where you stay in nice cabins with hot tubs and such at night! Sounds so fun!!!

We love aggie days and can't wait till next year :) There are so many other things we did, too many to remember!

A big scare...

So, last night around 5:30. I was downstairs getting ready to start dinner and had set Kyla in the living room with some Cheerios. While I was loading the dishwasher, Kyla Screamed. I looked up and saw that she had touched the glass of the fireplace (which was on). I ran and grabbed her and rushed her to the sink. It was good that my big helper Tommy was there, he got a bunch of things gathered for me, so we could head to the hospital. Tommy was actually really scared for his sister and was crying. But he was being so brave and helpful! Turns out we are lucky! Kyla only had 1st and 2nd degree burns on her palms. They bandaged her up and gave us some pain killers for her. She is dealing with it quite well (unlike her daddy!), although she doesn't like the "mitts" she has on her hands :) I took her back today to have them reassessed and had the dressings changed. They had formed blisters that had to be cut away. This she did not like! The skin under those blisters is sensitive to air. But, the doctor thinks they look okay. She will probably have gauze on for a week or so and they are letting me do the dressing changes now. It's so sad! Barry says we aren't turning the fireplace on anymore and he actually thought about ripping it out of the house completely! He is a little irrational when it comes to one of his kids in pain! I am just SO HAPPY that it wasn't worse!!!

After we got home from the hospital and put Tommy to bed, Kyla kept going back in his room. She likes to climb in bed with him or touch his face. I think I took her out of there 30 times. She absolutely loves that kid! I finally shut his door and she just sat outside the door like a little puppy!
